The Mrs. Bradley Mysteries

Laurels are Poison

I was enjoying the Mrs. Bradley series on PBS tonight [8-29-03] and listening to the feathery tenor singing the theme song, Cream in my Coffee.

Chauffeur Moody and Mrs. Bradley
You're the cream in my coffee
You're the salt in my stew.
You've become a necessity
I can't get along without you.

You're the starch in my collar
You're the lace in my shoeoo
You've become a necessi-tee
I can't get along without youoooo!

IT'S A PERIOD PIECE, and the 1920s British countryhouse ambience is much of its charm. The wealthy divorcee, Mrs. Bradley, always rigged out in fantastic hats and dresses wth an art deco look to them, shows up at the country house of an equally wealthy friend or relative and a mystery ensues, to be solved by Mrs. Bradley in collaboration with her trusty and handsome chauffeur, George Moody. Mrs. B operates above stairs, and George snoops below stairs whilst supplying any muscle or high dudgeon required. A charming pair.
